11/2010 – present – AOL/Patch Media
As the editor of two sites ( and that served as the region’s primary hub for local news, events, small business promotion, and volunteer opportunities, I created a dynamic user experience with reporting, photography, videography and interactive space. Developed and executed marketing events, built a strong base of local contacts both as news sources and readers, and cultivated Patch’s presence in these towns to maximize traffic and engagement. Maintained the sites’ business directories, hired and assigned freelancers, and communicated with readers heavily through email and social media. Content included breaking news and features; business briefs; governmental and civic meetings; and longform profiles of local citizens. Through featuring a daily police log, I developed a rapport with the fire and police departments, following up on larger stories of public interest. As a community editor for 18 Patch sites, I focused on content management, managed and solicited bloggers and contributors, maintained our social media presence, and analyzed data to optimize SEO.

Founded, organize and direct animal welfare nonprofit, which raises tens of thousands of dollars each year for New England based animal organizations. Pet Rock Fest is one of the most successful animal welfare organizations in New England, and has grown exponentially over the years. Its flagship event is the Pet Rock Festival, which occurs every September, and involves hundreds of vendors, exhibitors, contests, games, live music, speakers, vegetarian food. Maintain website, social media presence, organize the festival, solicit sponsorships and grants, coordinate media exposure, handle public relations, and promote animal organizations’ mission.

Reporter and editor for this company, specifically responsible for three of its sites:, and For these sites, I reported on news, wrote features, updated calendars, searched for information and edited and managed other reporters who contributed to the sites.

Deejayed an original show I produced called “The Weekly Shuffle,” highlighting local music and musicians. Conducted on-air interviews, played music, discussed issues with co-host, hosted live performances in the studio.

10/2007 – 10/2008 – Pawse Magazine
This magazine was scheduled to be published for the first time in 2008, but sat “on hold.” As editor, I constructed issue no. 1, which will also serve as a mock-up of this new publication. This entailed hiring a writing staff, creating story ideas and assigned these stories to writers, editing the articles for the publisher. Pawse focuses on “green living” as well as animal welfare issues, with a spotlight on shelter and rescue animals.

Worcester Publishing also owns a “Special Projects” division, which produces publications like ParentCare, The Dining Guide and others. I quite often proofread these periodicals, such as the book “Breathing for Each Other,” also a Worcester Publishing product.

Coordinated by the editor of the Middlesex Beat, I was consistently hired to write pieces of an “advertorial” nature for Boston Globe Magazine. These covered a wide range of topics, and were sales driven. Articles focused on such topics as “luxury living for adults,” “turning your small kitchen into an easier living space,” “active adult living” and “alternate heating sources.” These articles called for an especially quick turnaround time, a substantial amount of client interviews and adhering to various styles.

As noted above, I am also the founder and president of a large annual animal rights festival/nonprofit organization called Pet Rock, which attracts 3,000-5,000 people every year and has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for New England animal welfare organization. It is now in its 15th year. The position requires daily attention, coordinating and communication skills year-round. Duties include gathering information, assisting the web designer in updates, soliciting sponsors, writing and editing press releases, writing and editing ads, contacting media outlets, conducting interviews, promotion, devising plot plans, booking bands, booking food vendors, securing the staging, booking sound engineers and of course tying it together into one successful day. Needless to say, I have a passion for animals, and would particularly enjoy doing some work for an animal publication.

I’m also a keyboard player, rhythm guitarist and have played in, and served as a booking agent, for cover bands such as Pet Rock, a ’50s band called Cathy’s Clown and ’60s tribute called the New England Soul Revue, as well as a frequent hire for keyboard projects in various bands around town.
