Editor
10/2007 – 10/2008 – Pawse Magazine
This magazine was scheduled to be published for the first time in 2008, but is presently “on hold.” As editor, I constructed issue no. 1, which will also serve as a mock-up of this new publication. This entails hiring a writing staff, creating story ideas and assigned these stories to writers, editing the articles for the publisher. Pawse focuses on “green living” as well as animal welfare issues, with a focus on shelter and rescue animals.

Staff Writer
9/2006-9/2007 Pets! Magazine, Sturbridge, MA
Wrote feature articles focusing on issues relating to animals. Contributed at least 3-4 articles per month for this monthly magazine.

Editor/Music Columnist/Features Writer – Fulltime
12/1993 – 8/2008 Worcester Publishing, Ltd., Worcester, MA
As fulltime editor, duties included editing the entire listings section, copyediting features, writing columns and features (including covers), proofreading copy, interviewing, collecting information for use in the magazine. Worcester Publishing also owns a “Special Projects” division, which produces publications like ParentCare, The Dining Guide and others. I quite often proofread these periodicals, such as the book “Breathing for Each Other,” also a Worcester Publishing product.

Copywriter
6/2005 – 8/2008 Middlesex Beat/Boston Globe Magazine, Boston, MA
Coordinated by the editor of the Middlesex Beat, I am consistently hired to write pieces of an “advertorial” nature for Boston Globe Magazine. These cover a wide range of topics, and are sales driven. Recent articles focused on “luxury living for adults,” “turning your small kitchen into an easier living space,” “active adult living” and “alternate heating sources.” These articles call for a quick turnaround time, a substantial amount of client interviews and adhering to various styles.

Copywriter, Proofreader
3/2004 – Present Harrington Hospital Annual Newsletter
Wrote seven profiles on departments in this hospital, and also proofread this periodical.

Contributing Writer
8/2003 – Present Bride and Groom Magazine
Freelance regularly for this quarterly publication. Recent topics included “comparing types of wedding photography,” “ethnic menus” and “pets as part of the ceremony.”

Contributing Editor

Wrote articles for Larkin’s trade publication “Club Executive,” which included business-style pieces on resources concerning country clubs. Also formatted press releases for the “New Products” section and proofed pages. 6/2005-7/2005 Copyeditor – book project
Copyedited the memoir “The Uprooting and Rebirth of the Soghigian Family” by Harry G. Sogigian (note: the spellings are correct. History dictated a spelling change along the way)

Correspondent
5/1995 – 5/2002 The Boston Globe, Boston, MA
Wrote features (mostly of musical nature) on a monthly basis for the West Weekly section (now called GlobeWest) and was responsible for a bi-monthly column rounding up the “hot spots” in the area.

Additional Info:

I have listed various publications to give an overall view of my abilities and range, but all are not included. I’ve written for animal magazines and car magazines as well as advertising copy for an eyeglass store. It’s simply impossible to list everything. Please feel free to “Google” my name for clips.

Won First Place in Reporting at the New England Press Association’s 2000 awards, and Second Place for Business/Economic Reporting at NEPA’s 2004 awards; First Place in Human Interest Reporting 2007

I am also the founder and President of a large annual animal rights festival/nonprofit organization called Pet Rock, which attracts between 7,000 and 10,000 people every year (raising approximately $30,000 for animal charities each year). It is now in its tenth year. The volunteer position requires daily attention, coordinating and communication skills year-round. Duties include gathering information, assisting the web designer in updates, soliciting sponsors, writing and editing press releases, writing and editing ads, contacting media outlets, conducting interviews, promotion, devising plot plans, booking bands, booking food vendors, securing the staging, booking sound engineers and of course tying it together into one successful day. Needless to say, I have a passion for animals, and would particularly enjoy doing some work for an animal publication.

I’m the keyboard player, rhythm guitarist and booking agent for a cover band called Pet Rock, a ’50s band called Cathy’s Clown and ’60s tribute called the New England Soul Revue, as well as a frequent hire for keyboard projects in various bands around town
